Hey Guys,
I picked up a KZ650 with 5600 miles. Poor girl has been a garage ornament since 1993. She still has the break-in schedule on the tach. I immediately removed the carbs before running because the throttle would not move, carb pistons were stuck.
So I cleaned up and put new accelerator pump rubber and O rings. Finnaly got it together last night. Fired it up.
1. Only runs on choke
2. 1&2 cylinder get hot while 3&4 get luke warm.
3. Has spark on 3&4.
4. Have reciept for major tune at 5200 miles/shims etc.
5. Next steps - Help!

Back to square one...pull the carbs and reclean, paying particular attention to the jets.

The Kawasaki's with accelerator pumps were
notorious for being lean on the pilot circuit.
Run a small wire through the pilots to clean
them, carb spray is not enough.Set the air screws
at 1 1/2 turns out to start, some model have little
caps pressed in you have to drill and pry out to
get at them, some have a plastic nob pressed on to
the screw only letting you get about 1/2 turn open,
remove the plastic piece for more adjustment. The
longer a bike sits, the harder the carbs are to clean.
The last bike I did would not run right untill I installed all new pilot jets.
