if you still have the 900 crank in your motor its a big plus, but that extra bit of rake is also helping hold you down.wheelies are a waste of power when you are racing the trick is to put the power to the ground and accelerate, very hard to do when your busy looking at the birds!:P wireman was quite the wheelie riding nut when he was young but after many smashed kerkers, blown fork seals and cracked steering head gussets he too learned the hard way !:P

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

my 1170 on stock cams with a ported head will bake the rear tire into second Without dumping the clutch, but no wheelie.

i'm only 150lbs and it has an extended swingarm too so that doesnt help.

Put the bike on a dyno. That is the only way you
will know where and how much torque you have.

I reringed and i am getting 150psi compression warm and dry and 175psi with a little oil added.i only have 150 miles on it so maybee the rings are still seating.i' ll have to look up the #'s for my cams but they are .425lift and about 265 duration.I had the lobe centers at 110 and now have them at 107in/111ext.sounds like i need less duration to pic up the compression?Like some ape k410 cams? how much psi can i run on pump gas?Waiting for my turn on the dyno,4 weeks.

The intake closing event is determined by the duration and intake lobe centerline of the camshaft, as well as the actual position of the cam as installed with respect to the crank. When the intake closes you start to build compresion. I dont know the specs on the cams you are looking at but I can tell you that if you advance the cam OR get a tighter lobe separation cam you will get more compression.

At what degree does your intake valve close???????? From when the cams were straight up and now whith the tighter lobe separation.
When does the intake valve close on the new cam??? And what is the lobe separation???

Hey, about those wheelies.. I luv doin em too, had a honda nighthawk 450 that was a little wheelie machine.. Unfortunetly, never even THOUGHT of checking the frame for cracking.. Coming down off a wheelie one day lost the forks, the triple tree, everything.. Cracked the frame and split it..So, if your gonna be doing wheelies all over the place, REINFORCE the frame! By the way i landed in a big ass mud puddle and slid the rest of the way. Stopped in front of my friends door.. Not a scratch.. :silly:

All I can say is that any wheelie that I've done on My Bike...it does NOT land softly!Unless I can plane out nice and gradual, but for the most part,it lands like a bloody tank.:pinch:
I don't do them very often...mostly when I'm encouraged.

Back when I had 16-41 sproket I could do wheelies by rolling at 4g then snap close the throttle and then opening up the throttle and yank back. Wheelied good and I would hold the throttle open all the way and keep it open till the front end came down. The landing wasnt bad at all almost soft, just keep your weight back and the throttle open when you want to come down tap the back brake. Its not easy to learn to do a proper wheelie cause your reaction is to snap close the throttle:pinch: then slam the front on the groung, but if you hold the throttle and hit the back brake you will land smoother then closing the throttle.
