Something strange on oil plug was created by rgpbeme
Hi maybe someone can give me a little help. I changed the oil in my 79 mk2. When I pulled the plug on the pan there was a piece stuck to it. The piece is about 1/4" wide and 1/2" long. It was dark red and looks like it has wear marks on it from something sliding on it. It looks like it could be hard plastic but it was stuck to the magnet in the plug. I don't want to ride the bike till I find out what it is.

Sounds like the cam chain guide. Not sure why it's red. Thats usually the only thing that falls apart on kawasaki motors. It's a bummer because you will need to pull the head and cylinders to fix it. Before you do that you should pull the oil pan and see what else falls out to make sure it is the guide. :(

if its orange on one side it could be the magnet from the stator, i had mine rub on something and slowly chip away.

Thanks I never thought to see if the piece was the charged one and it was sticking the oil plug. I will check that later.
