Screwy oil level site was created by AlexV
Hey guys, I'm having a strange issue with my oil level sight. Basically it is the opposite problem from this thread here:
kzrider.com/component/option,com_joomlab...id,2/id,83436/#83436

I changed the oil a few days ago and in the process I might have filled it too far. So I take some oil out and get it in sync with the glass site. Weird thing is that when the bike is running, the oil from the site is all but gone. I read in another post that this happens naturally, to some degree, when the bike is started after an oil change. The difference on mine is that it returns right back to where it originally was.

I don't know if it is even safe to start my bike.
:S

Nothing screwy about it. When the engine is running, oil is being pumped around and is still draining back, so the oil level in the pan goes down. This is taken into consideration when they put the view window in. If you were to try to run an engine with the oil level constantly at the window, you would have your crank throws splashing around in the stuff big time. So, looking at the window when the bike is running is meaningless. Just check it whith the bike upright and not running, and everything's good.

You may also notice that the oil level will vary to a slight degree at times, more so if your bike has an oil cooler.
This is due to oil that is still in the cylinder head and oil passages (and oil cooler if so equipped) after shutting the bike off, and will eventually drain back into the oil pan.
