Sloppy Shifter?

The splined shifter shaft on my 94 KZ1000P has a considerable amount of play in it. It was noticeable when it had the heel-toe shifter on it, and wasnt as bad with a standard shifter. I just put a set of rear-sets on it, and the problem is magnified.

It looks as though there would be a bushig, oil seal, or something in the sprocket cover that would solve this problem, but I cannot see anyhting in the fiche anywhere. Does anyone have any ideas?

My '89 KZP is sloppy too, but I'm not sure what to do about it either. I will eventually take it apart and see what I can do, but I would rather know before tearing into it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The heel/toe shifter may have damaged the case cover seal that the external shift mechanism goes through... I suspect it elongated the seal opening and allows the shift shaft to flop some. Replace the seal. You might also want to replace the shift shaft spring which winds around the shaft and returns it... this spring may be a tad weak.

Thanks WG, I'll look for that when I take her apart, which I will do soon since I'm seeing a bit of an oil weep coming from that area. THANKS AGAIN!!

I cannot find a seal for the case cover opening anywhere. There is no remnant of one being in the case, and BikeBandit does not sho anyhting remotely similar tothis in the mocrofiche.

Does anyone happen to have a part number handy for this?

Bikebandit.com doesn't have Kaw Part numbers in their online parts diagrams. mrcycles.com does. You can find the Kaw P/N for three oil seals; one in the outer and two in the inner countershaft sprocket covers.

They are: 92049-1017, 92049-1070, 92049-004 (these are the part numbers for my 89 KZP...they should be the same for your 94. I got these from the Kawasaki web site that has the diagrams under "engine cover". Hope this helps.
