shaft to chain conversion
25 Jun 2007 14:47
Anyone done this? I have a 1100 that i did this to and everything went great but one thing. It doesn't shift right. It does shift but not right. If anyone can help it would be great. It has to be something behind the trans door that i didn't or did do.

Can you be more specific about the shifting problem?

Its not smooth and you have to shift it twice before it goes into a gear. Its hard to get it into 1st and back into neutral.

Have you looked at the shift fork and drum?

Changing to a chain won't affect how the bike shifts. Do some research on external shift mechanisms... I have gone through this a number of times... usually associated with "popping out of gear" or some similar topic.

Ok i changed the output shaft, the clutch pusher, and i moved the red to the blue and now im have trouble shifting. I was told this today by Oldmankaw.
"You need to use the chain drive shifter pawl, your calling it the shifter rod, the splined shaft the shifter pedal attaches to that moves the shifter drum. The lengths from the shaft to the shifter and overshift limiters on the upshift and downshift forks is different. Also use the chain drive clutch pusher rod (I assume you already got it with the output shaft swap)"
Anyone else hear of this?
