hey all...fyi..running close to 11-1 cr, run nothing but 93 octane..now the question..when hot..and usually at highway speeds, say around 75 to 80 in 5th...if i crack it without downshifting..it goes like hell but get an occaional chirping sound coming from the top end..now i know these old kaws don't like stop and go but this is at highway speeds..not grinding or knocking at all..but chirping..any ideas??
thanx in advance for any input..

I'm not sure if the 1000's have it setup the same, but my 650 was making a noise similar to what you describe. It turned out to be the top cam chain roller. Luckily I have a spare engine I could steal one from.

 chirping? I guess what I would try first is run a tank of 110 race gas and see if it goes away. My 1105cc with 10.25 compression (if you trust Wiesco,I've never done the measurments & math) would always rattled with 93 oct. In 100+ heat it could hardly pull it's self down the road at 60 mph without rattling. This spring I finally got busy and put an extra base gasket under the jugs. Now it has only a very light rattle when warmed up at full throttle on 89 octane and have yet to notice any power diffrence.

I would pretty much say that that is a noise of air escapingunder pressure. Retorgue head bolts and check for an exhaust leak. Also check your sparkplugs and see if they are torqued down.

Pick up a manual chain adjuster from APE. There are beautiful works of machined art and you can have faith that it is not going to let the chain go slack and jump a cam tooth. I won't run another type on my bike ever again.

Jeff at Z1 enterprises has them.
