I don;t know how it will do in that kind of heat, but I found that when I switched to royal purple the damn thing just ran better. It took less time to warm up, shifts smoother and just idles better. I know smome people don't like royal purple, but I think it's just the best stuff out there. The only down side is it can be a bit pricey.

I couldn't agree more one of Canada's best exports.:P  :woohoo:

I use the Honda 20/50 non-synthetic 4-stroke motorcycle oil. It's good stuff. I realise it costs a bit more than car oil but I like the research they put into their products.

I've used Castrol 20-50 (I don't know if it was GTX back then but that's what I use now) in the summer since I started riding back in the mid seventies.
This has included Nevada/California/New Mexico/Texas/Oklahoma. I use 10-40 in the winter.
No problems.

I just changed to the Chevron Delo 15w-40 diesel oil. As of the beginning of 2007 a lot of the oil makers dropped their zinc and phosporous levels which I understand isn't good for our cams and old engines. Rotella actually dropped their levels as well. Chevron Delo kept the zinc levels at .17 .

Rotella dropped their zinc? I had no idea, or I wouldn't have put it in my bike. I need to go track down these numbers and see where the changes were made. If that's the case I'll be switching over to Chevron Delo with my next change.

Grebnaws,

I went back an looked at the delo again . The levels of Phosporus currently is .12 and zinc is .13 which still should be more than fine. The new formulation is the CJ-4 . I think Rotella is about .10 or so for the zinc and phosphorous. A lot of the regular oils now are well well under .10 . The Bob Is The Oil Guy site has a ton of oil tests on the forums where people send in their oil for reviews. Find the oil you like with the most recent review and see what the oil actually contains.

I know of only one KZ engine guru and he swears by Kendall oil in these old bikes. He only trusts it as it is the only oil he has ever used that didnt spit shims at high rpm.
