Z500 B2 Valves
28 Dec 2005 14:32
Good Evening Gentlemen, my name is Peter and I live in England. I'm restoring a Z500 B2 [1980] and I've got as far as head removal. The inlet valves have amongst them an odd valve which is a slightly smaller diameter than the other three. The bike has done 26000 miles, [42000 km ].I've been advised to get a "Head Job" done. Has anyone experience of this model?
I suspect many engine parts for this model can be obtained from other KZ's, any advice very welcome.

No, but a cylinder head is a cylinder head. Shouldn't be a problem for anyone with the right equipment.

my haynes manual says the valves/split keepers were changed about 1980/81 on the North American KZ550, but they didn't bother making the change on the UK Z500.
the manual says the old valves were fine, the change was just for standardization.
if you go to www.kawasaki.com and look up the KZ550, it has the old and new part numbers. i'm not so sure about swapping parts between different KZs. i checked the valve part numbers for some different bikes (550/650/750/1000)and they're all different

Thanks Duncan, I'll have a look. I'm also after a primary chain but I've had suggested one with another numerical designation so I'm going to try Kawa.com.Peter
