question

what would cause the engine to stutter then shut off by its self? I just got done rebuilding the carbs and I know they might need to be tuned and all that jazz but could the rebuilding cause this? I decided to rebuild the carbs because last summer I had a bad hesitation problem... I would turn the throttle and the engine would hesitate for a second then speed up. any thoughts?

Sounds like your running out of gas. A number of things could cause this. Not familer with your year of bike (too new for me) Plugged fuel filter, kink in fuel line, float level too low, plugged passages. I believe you have CV carbs of which I know nothing about. Wired George is the local carb genius here.

its the air/fuel mixture... I think my dad (who worked on my carbs) tuned my carbs to run rich. Not enough air and my spark plugs are black. Not only that but they still need to be tuned.

Do you have a manual? Did you use it to
reassemble the carbs? Set all the adjustments
to the original settings and start from there.
You may need new plugs once they are fouled.
