Stupid question (oil pan) was created by ScottZ
Ok, forgive me, but I am really new and uninformed on 2 wheel wrenching. I recently just stripped out the drain plug threads on my Spectre oil pan. If I'm understanding the flowchart in the manual on bottom end part removal, the oil pan can be removed without pulling the engine out of the frame. Is that correct?

Have you checked into just getting a larger self tapping plug and an auto parts store? It will save you a lot of hassle

I've thought of it, but have read a lot of posts about people having problems with them. There is a guy locally that will weld and redrill and tap it for $40, but I have to pull the pan and bring it in to him.

No, you shouldn't have to pull the engine to remove the oil pan. You'll likely need to remove the exhaust system to be able to get to all of the pan bolts though.

Dang those gaskets are expensive. Anyone know of a good source that doesn't require a $75 minimum purchase? Are there any other options for the oil pan, like a liquid gasket?

. Not sure if they carry Spectre parts but it is worth a try. They are the cheapest and best around

If you're just needing the oil pan gasket, here ya go:
OIL PAN GASKET
But you better hurry though, there's only about 2 1/2 hours left on the auction!
It would also be a good idea to replace the one large (part# 671B2590, same as used on the oil filter plate) and 3 smaller (part# 92055-077) o-rings while you're in there.
