Ha. Noticed something else. All the title documents say the bike is a 1980 model, but the frame tag says ?/80 I can't make out the month as it's been rubbed out by the wiring harness. It looks like it was a 1/80.

Now wouldn't a bike built in 1980 be the 1981 model?

A bike built up until around 7/81 would still be a 81. After that it would be an 82. Months might be wrong but you get the idea.

1980 models were made from 7/79 to 6/80, automobile manufacturers do the same thing.

You will be able to buy a 2008 model starting in Aug or Sept of this year. :)

Zedder doesn't list the KZ750H models, just the KZ750E, I looked there first before posting :)

My guess is that it was manufactured between 09/79 and 11/79 due to the 4457 serial number.

That's what I was getting too, except there were no 750 4's in 80'. It must have been manufactured in the last 6 months of 1980 though and is really an 81'

Actually, the KHI 750(4) shop manual (part# 99924-1021-04) lists both H and E 1980 models as having been produced for US export.

I distinctly recall the 750E1 being released as a 1980 model. I have a Cycle World review from June 1980 and I know where a 1980 E1 is parked. 1980 was the very first year for the 750/4. 1980 also spelled the end of the line for the 650 B/C/D models in the USA. :(

I certainly hope there was a 1980 KZ750E, or the one sitting on my front porch with a manufactured date of 2/80 and a VIN ending in 3407 is a figment of my imagination :D

Member KoolAdeKid also owns a 1980 KZ750E, it was a ride on his that convinced me I really wanted one for my own. His is in a lot better shape than mine though, at the moment anyway :)

Yep ! 1980 kz750E. There's one parked under my carport ;) and the frame and engine numbers dont match.
You likely have exactly what the title says - a 1980 kz750 LTD

At 5000rpm you should be at 100kph or maybe a few km over.

I think all the old or original chains were 630. At some point in it's history a previous owner probably switched yours to a 530.

I'll counts teeth on the rear sprocket when I get home this evening
