Turbo canidate.
02 Jun 2007 13:08
I really want my next bike to be a Turbo bike.
I have a friend with a nice Z1R and a smoking
(literaly) 82 GPZ1100.I can get either reasonable.
Can one of these be a Busa beater and still be
reliable? Or should I just get an older ZX11 or
Suzuki Bandit. That is about the limit I will be
able to spend if I get a new MR Turbo kit and
don't have to spend too much on motor upgrades.

it should sure as hell give it run anway depending on what you put into it. you can turn down the boost and run it around town on pump gas and turn up the wick when you feel like going crazy;)

You should be able to double the power output of any one of those without too much trouble. I'd go for the Z1R if style is important or the ZX11 if outright performance is your goal. The MrTurbo kits aren't exactly cutting edge, but they work well enough, especially the ZX11 kit which has a basic fuel injection system.

Is there a better way to go for a Turbo than
MrTurbo? Web searches give few choices.RB racing
is kinda priced out of my league.I would love to
start with a ZZR1200.I loved the looks of it in
silver when it came out.For handling purposes I
should probably go as new as I can afford.I do
remember that the 83/84 GPZ1100s had a pretty
stiff chassis. If I am going to rob fom my 401k
account,I need to do this right the first time.

oh yeah im a sucker for the 83-84 1100s also:ohmy:
im going with a z1 this time around because ive surrounded by parts and the only real corners we have around these parts have stop signs,so handling 150mph corners arent a big thing!

If you like the 84 GPz style how about a nice 84 GPz750 turbo? They are relatively cheap to buy, all the engine work is done for you, they can be upgraded into a Busa beater (on race fuel anyway) and they would give you the turbo experience you are looking for (like hitting full boost exiting a corner!):woohoo:
There's even a helpful website all about them...

My friend Walt has a hopped up GPZTurbo.
It is fast, but not a Busa beater.I ran
another friends ZX12 for him last year,
it had a slipon and a power commander.
Stock Busas were no problem, but how many
Busas stay stock for long? Larry sold the
12 and bought a ZX14.The Muzzy pipe and
power commander will be here any day.My
goal is to go as fast or faster with something
a little more comfortable, cheaper to insure,
and more of a 'sleeper'.I put away one of
those big dollar Big Dogs with the KZ1170 last
year,what a blast!

With the GPZturbo 810,I think Walt can
pull big numbers on race gas.On the
street with pump gas when it is warm out
he has to run considerably less boost.
At lower rpm,it still only feels like a 750.

So to summise, you want a turbo bike that's...
Faster than a Busa/modified ZX12/ZX14
But older
Cheaper to buy
Runs on 100% pump gas
Cheaper to insure
More comfortable
Doesn't feel like a 750.
I guess you'd probably like it to be reliable too.
Hang on, it's coming to me....
....
....
...nope, sorry, it's gone..
