head bolt washers, any substitutes?
02 Jun 2007 12:34
i was counting my headbolts and i noticed i only had 10 headbolt washers and that only 3 of them appeared to be copper or copper coated, the rest are silver, none appear to be squished in any way.
is it possible to just use a standard steel washer under the headbolts?

I have purchased them from Kawasaki...Part Number 92022-215 (Washer, plain,10mm).
As Tjettim says, you really only need the four outside ones to be copper. However, the Z1 series had all 12 copper. It wasn't until the later Z1000's that they changed to steel, still leaving the copper for the four outside, so as to seal the oil-way to the head.
They appear to be a standard 10 mm washer. I have used brass (softened by heating to cherry-red & quenched) on the eight inner.
RegardZ.
