Well I have my clutch problem figured out :) . But now I am in the process of deciding which side of my bike I plan to kick it over on right or left ........ I purchased a new Vance & Hines exhaust from Dennis Kirk . I come home to find the magical UPS man has left me a present :) . I open the box to put it on and guess what ......... It doesnt Fing fit . Hmmm I say so I look it up online again at the DK website . Well it says it will work , why doesnt it ? So I proceed to the V&H website and they say it doesnt work . How if any will this fit on my bike . Or am I now screwed with a exhaust that wont work ? ARRRGGGGGG I am starting to think the brand new bike was a much better idea !

exhaust ports or mounting holes on the megaphone?

someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

It ended up being the clutch springs on the back of the basket . Scored a new/used basket from a motorcycle graveyard and viola no more noise . As for the exhaust nothing seems to fit . The primarys dont seem to be spaced far enough apart . The collector is hitting the frame on the right side and from where I am standing the collector looks like it will go right through my brake pedal and foot peg . Also the studs on the head need to be longer to have the flanges meet the head correctly .

Here is the V&H link ... www.vanceandhines.com/c106.html
and here is what dennis kirk says .
Part 25460 fits the following machines:

Kawasaki - KZ1000A 1977
Kawasaki - KZ1000A 1978
Kawasaki - KZ1000A MKII 1979
Kawasaki - KZ1000A MKII 1980
Kawasaki - KZ1000B Ltd 1977
Kawasaki - KZ1000B Ltd 1978
Kawasaki - KZ1000B Ltd 1979
Kawasaki - KZ1000B Ltd 1980
Kawasaki - KZ1000D Z1R 1978
Kawasaki - KZ1000D Z1R 1980
Kawasaki - KZ1000J 1981
Kawasaki - KZ1000J 1982
Kawasaki - KZ1000K Ltd 1981
Kawasaki - KZ1000K Ltd 1982
Kawasaki - KZ900A 1976
Kawasaki - KZ900A 1977
Kawasaki - KZ900B Ltd 1976

I guess according to V&H there is chassis modification and brake and peg modification required . But this is not what the guy at dennis kirk said . I asked if it would bolt right on and he said yep I sell them all the time . Dammit . I guess I just got a lesson in look before you buy .

There is no way a pipe is going to fit
all those years without modifications.
Some distributors have quit carrying
these pipes because of quality control
issues also.I believe you can still get
Kerker/trapp pipes for KZs but they are
alot more money.Mac makes an economy header
also, though the HP is less than a Kerker.
