Oil cooler removal on kz1000
26 May 2007 22:07
I have a 79 KZ1000 ST and I want to return it to box stock condition. It has a small oil cooler installed and I'm not sure how to un-install it. Below is a pic of how the line are set up going to the cooler.
Do I just remove the hoses and put plugs where the hose barbs are? Or do I run a line from one hose connector to the other? My manual does not show pictures of the oil galleries so I want to be sure I don't cut off the oil to anything.
I looked in the archives but could not find an answer.
Thanks for any help offered..

You will have to find an oil sensor housing. The Parts that the lines hook to will have to come off and the housing will go on. The housing is a one peice unit so it takes up both oil passages and all four bolt holes. I don't have a pic but I'm sure someone will post one up soon.

So, just hooking a hose from one connector to the other would'nt work?? I know, it would be ugly...but it should work, I think.
Thanks for the reply...I'll start looking for the part you mention.

It'll work but why not just leave it on until you find the right part? Cooler oil don't hurt.

Bob,I would say put the factory pipe/switch back on there,Bud.Without the switch,You have no "Low oil" warning light.
I have one here,and if You're interested,We could swap?
I WAS going to send it to Don,but He got one elsewhere.
Let Me know if You're interested.
