Clunking noise in KZ Belt Drive was created by Tyler
My bike clunks when I take off from a stopsign, etc. I can also hear it when snapping the throlttle at low speeds. I thought it was the rubber isolator in the rear wheel but that is not the case. With the rear wheel of the ground and the bike in gear I can move the belt back and forth about an inch, I am concerend it may be a problem in the transmission:unsure:, the primary is new.
IF this is abnormal what could be worn in the transmission enough to cause this? The bike has 13k on it.

Hey Tyler that is normal for the bike to be able to move back and forth in gear like that. But I am now experiencing the same problem at take off with my bike. Do you experience a rotational rough spot sound when rolling with the clutch disengaged? Also does the noise sound like it is underneath you and happens when you apply the clutch and just a small step away it clanks, not once but twice to 3 times til you get a steady roll? If yes to these questions, I suspect that the spacer/ washers in between 1st gear and the bearing on the out put shaft is below spec and the gear has alot of side to side play, and goes diagonally at times. I just took off my oil pan the other day and that gear was a little rocky, like a loose tooth Help for the both of us!

This is on my 440 and as far as I know I have to take the engine apart just to inspect it. My bike only clunks when I take off or let-off. A repeating noise like you describede is never a good thing...
Don't know if this is a normal thing...
the kawasaki clunk...

Does the 440 engine have a primary chain?
On the the British twins loose primary
chains would make noise.A worn or loose
cluth hub can make noise also.

yes there is a chain primary on the 440 but I have replaced it. It was making alot of noise and one of the guides had broken. The clutch was in great shape when I looked at it.

did you check the countershaft sprocket to make sure it is tight?
