MRE locking clutch was created by Jeff.Saunders
I'm about to install an MRE locking clutch on my Z1 turbo bike. Darned if I can find any reference to how much weight to put on each lever? Anyone know?

MRE support staff doesnt know?
maybe try the dragbike.com forum if you cant find the answer here
from what i have read they would be ok on the street as long as it isnt set up really strong, you just need a really strong grip to pull in the clutch if you have to when its "locked". maybe this would be a good time to put in a hydraulic clutch just incase you do get into trouble?

Pile the weight on, then back it off if you need to. Unless I am drag racing, I run around with a 20mm stainless bolt and two nuts on each arm. That way you don't burn up plates. Wireman, it's not a problem on the street, honestly. The revs always drop enough to allow you to pull the clutch in.

One other thing to remember is there are also shims for the springs. If you do not have any shims behind the springs then the initial spring pressure is less than stock. I found out that 2 shims is about stock height on the springs. This is something that is easily over looked.

I've run an MRE locking clutch before on a prior turbo bike - but the previouos owner had installed it and set it up. I never had any issues with clutch slip or being able to pull the clutch in.

BTW, I tried calling MRE, but they didn't return my call, nor did they answer my email - shame on them...

Make sure you call Jay at MRE and have him put the "hardend buttons" in the clutch hat or you end up with this....eventually the fingers will dig thru and if the go deep enough.......you could possibly explode the thing into 5 pc's..see the notch's in the pic, they will develope stress cracks that will go thru to the backside..

And by the way that's just the weight of the fingers with no weight on them that did that.
