small hole in my crankcase was created by georgeha
I had the chance to do some wrenching today, trying to track down an oil leak. I had hoped it was a leak from my dynamo shaft, something easily remedied with some cheap O rings from Harbor Freight.

When I took off the dynamo cover, I saw this little hole in the crankcase/block joint.

I imagine the best thing to do is take everything apart, fix it and put it back together. Do I have to, can I patch that with JB Weld or solder something there?

I did get it started at least, first start of the year.

Thanks

George

Was this hole a casting flaw, or was it caused by something breaking the case?

I have a 750 twin motor with a casting flaw that leads to the oil gallery right above the points cover. It was a constant oil leak until I sealed it up with epoxy (same as JB Weld).

My laptop died last night before I could properly resize a pic, I hope this one works.

I had never noticed the hole before, but last summer I started to get a fresh oil leak from the front sprocket area, and noticed fresh oil in the dynamo area.
