SHIMS zx6r interesting info tho' was created by Cactus
Bonjour, sorry I really don't get up here much but for a change here's an experience and some info that may help some in the future...

When you take out your SHIMS because the clearance is tight or lose they are coded (if the code has not been rubbed off). You can look up the code in your manual. What you really need tho' is a micrometer (I guess a digital one is easier to use as well) but they'll have one at the kwaki dealership.

For example code 80 means that you have shim size 280 BUT what we don't know is that Kawasaki use intermediate shims NOT shown in the manual. In the case of my zx6r K2 that is. Code 08 when upside down looks like code 80, but no it isn't, it's code 08 for an intermediate shim 308, believe it or not. Fortunately with the kwaki dealer I was able to verify that.

Here's a list of the intermediate shims available if you are interested (BTW the shims for Z1000's, Z650's and zx6r's all have a different diameter):

288, 293, 298, 303, 308, 313, 318

and the codes are thus: 88, 93, 98, 03, 08, 13, 18

So whilst I was changing my shims I needed a 300 (standard) to replace a 305 but also a 303 and a 298. Also some of the shims measure up a little big or a little small so it is necessary to check with a micrometer.

Thought this may be of interest to some.

PS Compared with the z650 there's so little space to work in on the zx6r, but it is beautifully enginereed.
