KZ1000J Oil Light

Hi:

My '81 KZ1000J Oil light goes on at low revs only after running for twenty minutes. Engine is hot.

I ran a test with a oil pressure gauge and the reading was erratic between 1 and 6psi at 3000RPM (the book says 2.8psi is normal) Otherwise the bike starts and runs fine but I'm not riding it until I sort this out.

Nothing makes sense so wondering if anyone else has any ideas. Thanks Viv Ottawa

Change the oil and filter ..
borrow another gage and test again ..

If it reads the same ..

Start saving ..sorry ..

By the way , do you have a cooler or any other non stock lines on it ?
If so bypass them .

I had changed the oil and filter before testing with the gauge so I guess you're saying the engine's shot?
