Oil pressure switch questions - KZ1000P
07 May 2007 13:37
Hi guys,
I'm swapping out the oil pressure switch in the hopes that the half-quart of oil per 150 mi that I'm losing is coming out there. It's pretty oily on the top of the tranny. Anyway, some questions:
- Can you swap an OP switch out with the carbs still in place?
- Should you add anything to the threads of one to decrease it's possibility of leaking?
- My current OPS has a rubber boot on the top. Nothing like that on the new switch or in the bike exploded parts diagram. The old boot is completely shot so I can't rescue it.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide. I'm shedding what seems like way too much oil but no smoke, no oil on the ground, just a little bit of oil pissing out of that OP switch.

You could try plumbers teflon tape on the treads.I would think you should be able to get in at it to replace it without taking anything off.Give it a try.It doesnt sound like that is where your loosing your oil though.Good luck.

You won't need anything on the threads of the new switch. If it is leaking it will be out of the top where the wire connects. That wears out and the male connector gets loose and leaks. You can get it out without taking anything off. I beleive it's a 17 mm.
