What did the fuel smell like when you drained it?

Resign yourself to the fact that the carbs are probably full of something that started out refined and has since degraded to something less than volatile and combustible. Even if there is anything in the bowls resembling liquid, there have been ample opportunities in eight years for what used to be fuel to crystalize and stagnate. Additionally, the stuff will not atomize due to probably clogged metering jets and passages.

You could pull the carburetor drain screws and turn on the tank prime position to see if fuel flows at all. But it is likely that the floats, needles and seats are going to give you trouble if the probablegoo is not removed from them. In a bad case scenario, the throttle slide could get stuck on a running engine.

No shortcuts to restoration/reconstitution.
