Welded Crank
25 Apr 2007 05:56
Greetings,
Been checking the Forum/Archive and can't find exactly what I am looking for.
When a crank gets 'welded', does each individual slab side get welded-up as it is pressed into place? If so, how would a shop keep the crank assembly from possibly moving about due to heat etc.? In other words, what are some generally accepted steps for welding a crank as I am sure different shops will vary in specific techniques?
Many thanks to all...

you have to make sure its straight 1st.running a long straight rod through the small end of rods and clamping it down should hold things straight while welding the pins in place;)

I believe the KZ1000 uses a 17mm rod...not too sure about the GPZ1100 though.
