aint he dreamy?81-82 KZ1100 head is the same as the J head, the 83-84 1100 head is different and much sought after, a 83-84 1100 head will sell for ~$600 or more on eBay, while a J or 81-82 1100 head will sell for ~$200.
Some people have said they stuck a 1100 block on a J without doing anything to the cases, while others have said the needed to clearance the case bores (commonly with a die grinder or dremel) to get them to fit, my guess is it depends on whether the case bores were bored to the high or low end of the tolerance range.
I just measured the diameter of the 1100 and 1000 J sleeves at the bottom of the two blocks I have, the 1100 is 78.64mm and the 1000 is 75.74mm according to my digital caliper.
On a side note, the 1000 J block has been bored for a 1105 kit, and it's easy to see why Jay (APE Jay) does not recommend the 1105 kit in a J 1000, those sleeves are really thin :woohoo:

lay your new head gasket on the head and scribe around it.post a picture of what youve got and we'll walk you through it;)So I got the block and pistons today. Like I had Imagined the cylinder head cumbustion chamber is oviously smaller in diameter than the sleeves, so is it going to be a problem when I install the 1000 head on the 1100 block? or is ok the way it is?

Post edited by: customkzft, at: 2007/04/26 20:17

Not a problem. Use the 1100 head gasket.
1100 sleeves will clear the crank.
Case may or may not fit. Luck of the draw AFAIK. Were it mine, if no fit, I'd split case and take advantage of the opportunity to replace all the seals and do any work toward planned future upgrades.
I have messed with but not finished...kz1100B2 and 87 KZP.
1100 head and KZP head are the same, aside from the exterior finish and drilled/tapped hole for CHT sensor.

The 1100 head fits perfectly on the 1000 cases!
Is the head gasket supposed to be the same size as the sleeves? or a bit smaller?
