1981 KZ1000 Valve Clearances was created by Norseman
I'm new to the forum and new to my 1981 KZ1000 M1 CSR. I don't have my manual yet, but need to do the valve clearance check/adjustment.

Does anyone know what the clearance tolerance specs are, and the method (rotate until intake #1 lobe is...). I have ordered the Motion Pro tappet depressor tool, and my local dealership has a huge selection of shims, so all I need now are the specs.

Appreciate any help!

If I remember too, next week I could scan in my manual.

My clymer manual for 81-83 models says all models except ZX1100A the clearance is 0.002- 0.006 in or 0.05-0.15mm

I would try and get one of the std Kawasaki tools which clamp the bucket down. I have heard to many horror stories of flying bits

If you join the UK club they have a free shim exchange service which i have used. at NZ$20 per shim in New Zealnd it was well worth joining as I changed 5 during a top end rebuild

Thanks to all of you who responded, and FloridaBiker, I reallt appreciate your efforts in scanning the spec in. You guys were very helpful, and I do appreciate it!

I will be ordering the tool from Z1 which is the Motion Pro version rather than the Kawasaki genuine tool. It's rather inexpensive, and I'm used to the Suzuki tool which uses the same principle.

I'm really looking forward to the job, which is one I actually enjoy (but then again, any time I get to do maintenance work on my bikes I enjoy). Looking at the specs you guys provided me, it would seem that the nominal clearance would be 0.11-0.12mm, as I prefer the looser end of the tolerance for general riding. What do you guys think?

Thanks again for your assistance!
