Shim removal
15 Apr 2007 18:21
Im practicing shim removal on a spare head and I just cant get them out of the buckets. I even took the bucket out of the head and I can get the shim to spin in the bucket but just cant get it out even using a dental pick or a magnet. Any tips or tricks to get them out?

You DO see the little notch on the cam bucket, right? That's where You would use a precision (flat) screwdriver to pop the shim out of the bucket.
OR...give it a shot of brake clean(aim at the edge of the shim) to break the seal that the film of oil is creating...or like BSKZ said...a blast of air.

anything that will break the "surface tension" of the oil. like stated, compressed air, brake cleaner....a bit of heat might get the oil to drip off and the shim should fall with it
