if he uses 750 cylinders, won't he have to bore the cases?
if so, the 750 sleeves in a 650 block sounds like a better idea.
also, won't he need a different cam chain tensioner to run 29's on a smaller cc bike?
(only asking this so i also get the info before i install my 784 kit this weekend)
it has a 750 jug assembly.

KZ650's prior to 81-82 need the case bores cleaned up to allow the bottom part of the sleeve to slide through it, so it don't matter if you use the cylinder block or just the sleeves, you still have to do the same thing to any 650 that does not have a HyVo (link plate) style cam chain.

I don't know anything about running 29's on a 650/750 motor, it seems to me that the BS34's would work better.

I also have a 650 the mods are listed below. I never dynoed the motor so I don't know what HP it makes. i can tell you it is a LOT more powerfull than it was. That is of course using the seat of the pants dyno.

Kind of a mis-statement to say that cases need to be bored to put in larger displacement sleeves... they just need some grinding... I can do this sort of thing in a few minutes with a die grinder. It helps to have the cases split... this needs done on many 1015cc block installs on 903cc cases. Just wanted to clear this up in the event someone thinks this is some kind of scientific operation. Boring takes machine tools and a brain. Grinding takes a compressor! Bwhahaha

I wouldn't suggest blocking that fitting off since it's desgined to vent the crankcase.

K&N offers VENT FILTERS for that application, and most auto parts stores sell similar ones for around $10~$15.

It sounds like your buddy with the KZ550 either didn't have one of these vent filters mounted, and/or overfilled the engine with oil.

Ok so I tried the K&N filters on my bike this week. It seemed to liven it up pretty good, the only problem is like I posted before for my brother-in-laws 550. I lost about 1.5 quarts of oil in a 20 mile ride from the breather hole on the transmission. With the factory airbox the bike never consumed an once of oil, but now I can't even ride it. I out a breather filter on the bitch, and all it did was get soaked with oil. I like the way the motor seems to rev quicker, plus it sounds so much better with the K&Ns but I can't ride it because of the damn oil leaks. It's so bad that the foot pegs and the rear tire not to mention the rest of the bike are just covered with oil. What can be done to correct this??? I'd hate to have to put the factory airbox back in, but it seems like I'm going to have to. I need some advice on how to fix this.

I had the same problem when I installed a K&N crankcase breather. I ended up mounting mine on a longer hose and installed the filter up on the backbone of the bike. I no longer use any oil.

the article in the filebase about the kz650 at bonneville(?) and at a dragstrip was running 29s it had the funny 4-1 that exited on the left side

I'll give that a try. I know that the K&N's alone don't give me much more hosepower, but they make the motor sound more fierce.
