Anyone want to chime in one this one?

I'll do my best to describe this problem I am having. I have a 1983 KZ 1100-L LTD. It is running fine, but the last few times I've ridden, it makes a sound like pressure escaping or a tea kettle (at first I thought it was a scraping noise). I only hear it when I am slowing down to stop, it continues for a few seconds then stops. Is this any thing to be concerned about? Is this perhaps a gasket leaking the accumulated compression? Could the colder weather contribute or cause it somehow? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Check the vacume lines and the intake manifolds, it sounds like air is being drawn in under high vacume (closed throttle) conditions.

my tea kettle makes a wet whistling sound when pressure is escaping

does that bike have a crankcase breather filter?
if so, can you blow through it?

if you loosen your fuel cap, does the symptom disappear?

I had similar problem, gas cap vent was plugged somewhat and i would hear whistleing sound when stopped at lights or just after shutting down. unplugged the vent and the sound when away......

I like the gas cap for the noise. Use more gas when on throttle. When stopped gas cap has chance to "catch up".

That sounds like it 1045, now I guess I just need to find my gas cap vent. Thanks everyone, I'll be back if that's not it.

I had a similar problem. It turned out to be the reed valves on the exhaust ( 1980 kz 750 ltd). On top of the vavle covers are two reed vavles and they feed fresh air into the upper end of the exhaust to increase the burn of the fuel. I just capped them off and that fixed the whisteling sound. I figured it out by pulling the hoses that go to the valves off and blowing into it. One side whisteled the other didn't.
