I have a KZ440.:whistle:I need more power for highway driving. I want to know if I can put a bigger motor(knowing I have to change front end because of weight)like a 550 in the frame and if so dose any one have a KZ550LTD motor in Nova Scotia for sale.

Any thing can be accomplished.

The real question is: Is it worth it?

The 440 is a good bike. If you want to cruise at sustained speeds sell it off and get a four cylinder 650 or larger.

The problem is its small and light and my condition requires this for me to ride. So I guess it's worth it to me. But thank you for the suggestion.

Like KZCSI said, it can be done.

One thing to consider though, swapping a 550 (or larger engine) into your bike is going to increase the total weight of the bike considerably.

The weight is low and balance is good, I guess I'll have to relearn balance on turns if I go with the change. But you made a good point.:)

Enlarging sprocket might work if the engine had a little more horse power. It would only give me a couple more kph. We did a Cape Breton run last summer and she made the run but the long highway ride there she was maxed out for most of it at 103kph. I WAS ON A BIKE and I was in my glory. Cars were upset but I didn't really care, the only problem I had was my boyfriend was on a 550 Seca yamy and he had to ease off of the throttle. I've been on a bike for 2 years now and I think I'm ready to move up.

if it is all out at 103kph or about 63mph, there is something wrong with your 440. they can cruise in the 75+mph range if you can stand listening to the engine scream. i would say check timing and your auto advance unit.
as far as putting a 550 motor in a 440 frame. going from a small twin to a middle weight four, there would be considerable frame issues to mount it, then some smaller wiring issues to get it running.
id suggest looking for a 550 bike instead of just the motor.

Do it right or don't bother doing it at all.

I was thinking you were just wanting something with a higher overall top speed, I wasn't aware that your bike is maxing out at only about 103kph/63MPH.

I agree, there's definately something amiss there.
I once owned an '82 KZ305 twin, and with it's ears pinned back it'd hit into the 90 mph range.

But if you still have your heart set on something with a little more grunt, Kawi made several years of the 550 LTD model that's almost identical in styling/seat height/apperance as your 440, so you might want to consider looking into getting one of those.

It'd certainly be a lot cheaper and less of a headache than trying to stuff a bigger "heart" into your bike.
