1983 GPZ750 engine noise
30 Mar 2007 08:49
Hi,
Maybe somebody can help me.
I'm the new ownner of a 1983 GPZ 750.
I've just bougth it for 350$ but I didn't been able to ear it running since it was too cold that day. For that price, I was Ok to take the risk.
Last week end, I've been able to start the bike. Runs well when RPM is higher than 3,000 but when lower, I hear knoking noise in the bottom left of the motor (on the shifter side).
It doesn't keep is idle neather but I presume it only need a good carb clean up.
Can someone give me a few hints of what the problem would be for the knocking noise.
I've just want to check if it worth putting money on it or just sell it back for 350$ for parts.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Jocelyn

Normally it's just the primary chain making that noise. Sync the carbs and it will probably be a lot quieter.

Call 1-800-RATTLE and hold the phone next to the engine so I can hear it...

my 84 700 make's the same noise at idle ,like was suggested before it's probably the primary chain, it will get better when you sync the carbs but won't go away, i've put 5000 miles on my bike and it has not got any worse, from what i understand they all make some noise

That's surprising since I am a member of the GPz Mailing list and 750turbo .com, and in the two years I have been reading both (plus KZR) there has been no mention of anyone having problems with the crank or rod bearings. And both places have members that are heavily involved in both road racing and drag racing the GPz750's. And some of the Turbo guys are pushing near 200 hp through the same bottom ends.
