Oil pressure was created by HARRHAUS
Don't know how this works so here goes , I have 78 Z1R , I went for a ride to the local burger joint and noticed my oil light would come on & go-off looked down at my pressure gauge and no pressure , light would go off , pressure up & so on , got home oil level good , ran it at 3000 rpm , pressure gauge read 3.0 psi looked good , could my pump be going bad ? or something else.

check sending unit for idiot light 1st ,these motors only run around 3 psi of oil pressure.might want to try changing oil and filter just incase to see if you notice any metal in the oil or filter;)

is there a possiblitiy that the pil may have been thinned out, maybe by gas running in the carbs?

do a oil and filter change first

Factory readings for my '85 GPz550:
Oil Pressure @ 4000rpm, 90C(194F) = 2.0-2.5 kg/cm2(28-36 psi).

Corey, the 550 engine isn't the same as the 1015cc engine. The oil pressure for a KZ1000 is under 10 PSI at the top end.

HARRHAUS, there are few ways to make an oil pump fail since the thing is strictly mechanical; running off the crank shaft. You might possibly have sheared all the teeth off the cog that runs it but I doubt that happened. More likely that the oil sender is defective of that the oil pump screen is clogged with slop. Sounds like it is time to drain the oil and pull the pan and have a look. If the bottom of the pan has enough sludge, oil won't flow through the channels and reach the sender making it look like it has run out of oil I guess.

Thanks George(as Corey crawls back under is rock), I was just throwing the numbers out that mine is. I had no idea those bikes were that low pressure.
