Ahhhhh Ooooops

Hypothetically speaking let say you knew someone who was cleaning the carbon off the top of a piston with a buffing wheel on a bench grinder and the piston shot out of his hand and cracked on the ground. Could that person just buy 1 new stock piston and fit them all with new rings or do all 4 have to be replaced with with a cylinder bore.

shlould be able to buy one of the same pistons ,ie mfg, comp ratio, it should work, but if I went to all the trouble to take it that far aprt I would replace all the rings, providing things do not have too much wear

you could get away with just one piston, only trick would be finding a piston that was really close to same bore dimensions of what you took out because they all wear a little differant depending on how many miles it has on it and how well it was cared for
might be time to step up to that 1385 and bigblock on APES website  okay maybe just the 1075 kit, baby steps are best they tell me!

What WiredOOd said, plus...
Hopefully, you've got the pistons numbered according to which bore they came out of - 1 - 2 - 3 and ooops, let's say, and once you get the right replacement piston, have them weighed on a good scale and match the weights on 1 and oops as closely as possible. Doing the same on 2 - 3 wouldn't hurt either.
Hone the bores within tolerances, re-ring with a fresh set, and you're there.

I suppose aside from the siren call of carbon less crowns, the pistons and rings were OK? If the rings are still OK, transfer them to a good one and put her back together.
If bores are glazed, unlikely but if so they'll look like glass, you might want to go over them with some emery paper or fine hone.

thanks for the suggestions, I think I will go with the 1 piston, new rings and a hone job route. Just out of curiosity how much would a guy have to spend for a big bore kit.
