transmision leak and malfunction was created by MT 81 kz750
I have an 81 kz750 four that has a bad leak coming off the front sprocket right out of the transmision. I would assume that it has a oil seal that needs to be replaced. My question is 1, what do they call that seal and 2, do I have to replace the seal around the shifter.

Also My transmission only clicks into 1st gear and Neutral. It won't go up any higher. I figure while I am fixing the seals I can take a look at the tranny. Are the tranny's complicated or is it something I can fix.

Awesome!well I guess when you are starting out you run the risk of asking dumb questions. Any ideas on the seals.

I really have to get myself a shop manual.

There are actually 3 seals on the mission (transmission) cover, and it'd be a good idea to replace them all IMO.

Output shaft seal (Kawi p/n 92050-024)
Shift shaft seal (Kawi p/n 92051-005)
Clutch puch rod seal (Kawi p/n 92049-1017)
Mission cover gasket (Kawi p/n 11060-1056)

The sprocket cover has two seals in it (p/n 92051-005)where the shift shaft comes through it, but you shouldn't need to replace them unless they're damaged.
