Engine/bearing noise

I have a weird noise in my engine. When I ride at about 50+ kms I hear a high pitched almost like a dry bearing squeal I can pull the clutch rev it and it used to go away but now it usually stay unti I come to a stop or slow down almost to a stop. I was thinking the top chain roller or perhaps a guide/tension bearing. It is hard to determine because it won't do it sitting and it's kind of hard to check it on the highway:unsure: .

No takers on this problem. I guess I'll dive in to the engine head first and hope for the best:evil:

wheel bearing possibly, you pull the clutch in and it takes pressure off the bearing at the hub.

dont want it to lock up like goose in mad max.

Only when moving and at above 50km 2000 + rpm but not always present, but when it is It sounds like it is in the top/front of engine and believe me you can hear it over the engine and I have a header on it.

This is pissing me off because it is not always there and when it is I can pull the clutch in and rev the engine and it keeps squealing but I cand pinpoint it while I'm riding with a helmet on:blink: :woohoo:  :woohoo:

My "GUESS" woud be the top idler:S

Won't know until I rip it apart.

Only when it's moving don't sound like a engine problem to me.

Run it up till the squeal is loud, then pull in the clutch and shut the motor off, if the sound don't go away then you know it's not motor related, if it does then you can assume it's the motor.

I just had a similar problem. Mine was under the post of "wheel bearing or brake? " the dang thing drove me nuts:angry: :S Read my posting and see if it's like what you are hearing.
When I took off my helmet and looked further I found out mine was the speedometer it's self making the noise.
I agree that from what you have said it is NOT the engine.
Look at other areas first!

Ok get ready for this everone was partially right and I was soooooooooooooooooooooooooo wrong. I changed the wheel bearings hey whats 20.00 they were probably oe anyway:laugh: Guess what still had the noise. I tried the pull the clutch in and kill the engine and holy *./&@ the noise was still there so it wasn't the engine after all. At this point it had to comming from the front wheel it was either my speedo gear or hold on my damn speedo cable that I replaced at the end of last fall .

I took it off and went for a ride and low and behold my noise has gone on vacation. I greased the cable and now ride noise free. Thanks to all for the tips and info.:)
