Shaft and chain driven models have diff frames were the swingarm mounting area is concerned.

So swapping engines is probably going to present more problems than it's truely worth.

buy the motor if it's cheap.
the upper half is worth a mint (j-head and 1089 cylinders)
then buy a kz motor cheap and have fun.
either way, it is a good head to have.
i always watch them on e-bay and the average price for them is $250.
the 1089 cylinders have the sleeves you want for a big bore kit.
plus, i would always like to have a backup tranny for my bike.
now is this a complete motor?
carbs and all?

someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

Try dragbike.com. The racers use the shaft motors all the time. Not sure what is invoved with making them chain drive, but they are the strongest kz motors you can get.

IIRC, it's just a matter of swapping the trans output shaft and the outer cover.
