Woo Hoo what a score!!! was created by The Gringo
On Sunday I finally got around to picking up the 83 750 L3 I bought off Ebay a few months ago. The black Kerker pipe it came with is a bit pooched on the bottom so I couldn't convince myself that spending $200.00 to have it jet hot coated was a smart thing to do. I was reading in another thread here about a member using a pipe from a ZR7-S on his KZ700 so I searched Ebay and found this.
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...em&item=330098893953

From what I could find out from the Kawasaki site looks like it should work just fine. A complete stainless exhaust for under a $100.00 I'm psyched:) :) . Looks like now I have to go visit the local dealer tonight and look at a used ZR7 they have for sale to see what it is gonna sound like.

I gotta tell you, Gringo, I shake my head and smile every time I see the list of rides in your signature. Do you collect all kinds of stuff, like stamps and salt shakers? Or is it just Kaws?
Either way, you are MY HERO!

Nah Tim no salt shakers just old Kaws the silly thing is the list in my sig is not even complete I've bought another 81 750 LTD and this latest L3 that aren't even listed. I'm also thinking about getting a 1980 LTD 1000, I figure I better get them all now before the warden gets her visa to come here and puts an end to my fun:pinch: . Years back I was obsessed with raising show horses, trust me this is way cheaper and a lot less work.

Wow congrats on that find. Is this a trick that would work on a '80 KZ750 LTD ya think? Keep us informed on how this worked out, I may have to go this route myself.

I won't know for sure until I get the system here but I'm guessing that it would work on an 80 LTD 750. I didn't make it to the dealer yesterday because we finally had some warm weather and I got involved playing Mr Potato Head with my 80 750 LTD (I swapped a nice clean set of carbs from the L3 on to it). From what the other member here who tried this has said, it might just work better on the LTD because the only real problem he was having was it interfered with the oil cooler lines and the LTD doesn't have an oil cooler.

I'm really thrilled to have found out about this swap. I did not realize that Kawasaki was still making the air cooled 750 as late as 05. At the risk of driving up the prices of these exhausts I'm thinking they might also work on the late 70's 650's as well. Hopefully there are a bunch of squids out there that bought these bikes and replaced the stock systems with titanium or carbon fiber exhausts.

Gringo, congrats on the nice score.B) B)
The last year of production for the ZR-7 was 2003. It has been replaced with the Z750, a water-cooled 750 that has the edgy styling like the Z1000.
The ZR is a great UJM, and I doubt there are many squids that buy those bikes 'cause they aren't the latest/greatest/fastest.
It's pretty ironic that you bought a ZR7 exhaust, because I've been wanting to install an old-school type 4-into-1 (Kerker, V&H) on my ZR7. I'd like to find a beater exhaust to check fitment issues, then buy a new one.
Anyway, nice score and good luck. I hope the installation is easy for you.
