OK, I've checked the search, but haven't found any good information. I want to change the Cable clutch on my 1982 KZ750R to Hydraulic. Any Help or leads appreciated. I just need a direction to go in or some links to maybe start searching. I should be fine from there.

Just a note. I've converted the brake to a Shindy Adjustable Brake master Cylinder and would like to do the same for the Clutch.

Although American Classix.com offers a conversion kit, it shows as being out of stock right now and doesn't specify exactely which bikes it fits.
It's pretty steeply priced too ($399.95!).

Maybe try contacting them to see if it will fit your bike, and when they'll have them in stock again. :)

the kit is pricey but they do sell the actuator seperate
for both classic kz and gpz/j motors too.
this would be the way to go buy the master cylinder of your choice and even get the nice billet sprocket clover
that i posted about earlier in the week.

Yea American Classics. Bought something from them a year or so ago, took forever to arrive, in the mean time they rarely replied to repeated emails to enquire about delivery. I'll never use them again.

I'm almost done with a conversion. Check out my thread on CM. I haven't tested it yet because of snow and still needing a longer clutch hose.

Hey StreetfighterKZ,
That site wants me to register just to look at anything.
What's up with that?

Never noticed that since I'm always signed in...

Let me copy/paste.....

The setup is from a '91 Zx7 and its pretty easy although time consuming with hand tools to make it work. If your not running an offset sprocket you can get away with less work a.k.a. trimming.

The 91-95 Zx7 and a few others models are one of the few slave cylinders I've seen that uses only two mounting hole which makes life pretty easy. The center to center is larger than the stock clutch release by about 4-5MM so the first thing I did was get a small round file and elongate the holes. After some trial and error the cast in "tab" that keeps the hose from spinning needs to be ground flush (won't nee to be done for those with stock offset sprockets).

That takes care of the mods for the slave cylinder, so far so good. Next is what takes the most time, you will have to do some heavy grinding (or those with a milling machine about 2 mins of work) to get the slave cylinder to fit the sprocket cover. Again those with stock sprockets will have less grinding/milling to do. I had to completely grind out some of the webbing for the cylinder to fit. I also had to make a small relief in the backside of the cover because even with the grinding on the cylinder it wasn't enough for the slave cylinder to set perpendicular to the clutch pushrod.

The clutch release rod does have to be trimmed about 7/8" of an inch. (I didn't get a good measurement because I used trial and error and didn't measure that part of the process.) I also used the "rod cap" from the Zx7. The design of the cylinder's piston means you have to use this piece, or make something similar. The ID of the cap is slightly larger than the OD of the rod but I think it should OK.

I have not tried the setup as I need a clutch hose that's 10-12" longer.

Oh and total cost so far....$00.00 (thanks John at Cycle Analysis!)

Anyways, here are some pics....
