Here's a pic of a ZR7 where you can see the motor looks identical to the KZ750.

That seems a lot to me... That's more than a 750 would make...There's a sticket under the seat on mine that says "Max power - 77 PS"
Maybe Kawasaki made some performance upgrades to the 700 to make the differences with the 750's smaller?
@Steell,
That's what I was thinking.
I guess changing the angle of the engine in the frame would also mean changing the sump. Because all the oil would flow to the forward end of the sump.
Anyway, I am going to give it a try soon. I will let you know if it can be done the easy way...
I think I will have to fabricate a mounting for the muffler, but that will be relatively easy.
I have just won a Remus oval stainless steel muffler, so I will be fitting that one instead of the standard lump.

I have tried to fit the ZR-7 exhaust in the last few days (evenings).
I seems to fit perfectly apart from three things:
- I have to get rid of the centrestand. but thats not a real problem, because with my old Marving exhaust I also couldn't use it.
- I have to make a bracket to attach the silencer to the rearsets. Also no problem because I already knew I had to do that. The only thing I have to figure out, is do I make a bracket to the rearsetbracket or do I make a connection to the upper spring connection on the frame.
- The ZR-7 headers have balancepipes between 1,4 and 2,3 cylinders. These pipes are touching my oilcooler lines (hoses).
Does anyone know if it is possible to bend the steel tube part of the oillines that comes out of the engine?
Maybe I can also try to turn the connections at the cooler so the hoses don't touch the header. But I don't think I can turn them far enough this way.
Anyways, from what it looks now I'm sure it's gonna be a very cool exhaust. the length of the system is perfect for the old KZ!
I will shoot some pictures soon, but for now I'm trying to disassemble my front sprocket.
The thing seems to be stuck...

4R, I believe you are talking about the liquid cooled Zx7 while the original question is about the air cooled ZR7.

Steel what model year is that ZR7 in the picture you posted? I'm thinking possibly a stock exhaust like the one shown on this bike might fit the 83 750 L3 I just picked up.

It doesn't really matter what year the ZR-7 is, all years ave the same exhaust. The faired ZR-7S also has the same exhaust.steell wrote:

I believe they were made from 1999 to 2003.

Thanks for that info I just bought a complete system for a 2002 ZR-7S on Ebay for $76.00 yesterday. I plan on putting it on my 83 750 L3 which is pretty much identical to your KZ 700. I'm thinking this is a much better alternative than using an aftermarket header. Maybe I'm getting old but anymore I just don't like the noise.

I paid 72 euro's for my complete system, so you really have a bargain there!
I'm also getting old, but I want a motorcycle to be a bit louder than a sowingmachine, so for that reason I bought the Remus muffler. If it's too loud I can always put the standard muffler on...
Does the 1983 L3 have an oilcooler? Then you may have to bend the oilpipes a bit to clear the headers. I also turned the connection of the pipes at the oilcooler a bit, so now I have a clearance of about an inch or so.
You also have to loose the centerstand if you have one, mine is touching the exhaust.
A shiny stainless system on an old bike looks realy good!

You'll have to wait, because I'm also changing the sprockets and chain. And also the swingarm.lets get some sound clips of that exhaust up here! im interested to see how it sounds with the new exhaust
But the frontsprocket nut is stuck!!!

I tried an air impactwrench, WD40 and a lot of force on a normal ratchet.
I now have two options to get it loose.
First option is to heat it with a paintstripper, and then try again with the ratchet.
The other option involves a dremel...
But I hope to have it running again in a week or two, depending on how fast I can get the parts.
