my 750 engine, help
21 Feb 2007 20:54
Here is a crappy video of my engine starting cold, and then running.
You will hear the clunking I am wondering about, there is no picture just darkness and sound though.
Can anyone inform me where to start getting rid of this annoying noise?
As you will see, it goes away at higher rpm, then comes back at idle.

Did you have the microphone real close to the bottom of the motor when you recorded that?
It sounds like the primary chain, but much louder than normal, if you had the microphone right next to the motor then that would explain why it is so loud.
Have you synced the carbs?

it was above the motor at the clutch handle at first, then i moved it to the motor after it was running for a minute.
it sounds more top end when listening to it, but then it also sounds lower like in the crank case, im not sure. so i posted it here.
I will take another video of it running in daylight some time today.

Thats better with daylight. What is that "squock" noise when you start it? (at 11 seconds.) Is the timing OK?

Don't lose sleep about fixing that starter clutch unless it fails, or you are openning up the engine anyway. My daily rider with 97,000 miles has been making this noise for at least 14,000 miles, without getting any worse. Sometimes the cure is more of a problem than the disease.

This sounds like my bikes have sounded when I was rebuilding and the carbs were WAY out of sync or the floats were screwed up, so that the cylinders were fighting each other.......Have you synced the carbs?
