Swap exhaust cam for inlet to powerup?
16 Feb 2007 05:38
OK, so you can swap the exhaust cam for the inlet cam on a Z750 twin to get a bit more power, how about a Z500/Z550? I have a Z500 block I'm putting 550 jugs and pistons on, and while I have the head off, why not?
Thanks,
Steve

I don't have an answer...but you're saying just swapping the inlet and exhaust cams on a 750 twin will yield more power, or getting a second exhaust cam off another bike and using two exhaust cams?

750 twin exhaust cam has more lift and duration that the intake, but you have to cut off the end of the cam with the tach drive gear to get it to fit. I used a sawsall
I don't have it running yet though, plus I cut .050" off the head, and I think that may have been to much
That was the first time I ever milled a head and I kinda got carried away.

Steell, you're cracking me up! A sawsall to cut off a cam!
Let me guess, you milled the head by rubbing it on the sidewalk right?

Nope, used the 1939 Gorton vertical mill in my garage
Someday I'll post a pic of my home made valve spring compressor, it takes less than 5 minutes to remove all the valves from a 8 valve head, and it cost me $0.00 to make it
I used part of a sign post, a broken come-along, and a short piece of galvanized pipe. Nothing shade tree about this boy
