So the Clymer manual states the KZ650 valve lifters should be removed "with an apprporiate tool". Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Not wanting to fork up dough for such inane "tools", I use any small suction cup, like the one used to hang little decorations on windows. My daughter had this cute little toy that hund by a string and a 1" clear plastic suction cup. Hobby Lobby might have these.

1977 KZ 650 B1, I own two of them. Working on one custom rebuild, one daily rider. Used to have a third. Two 1978 KZ 650 C2 models, sold both. KZ owner since 1987.

use a magnet, lifts them out with ease, just watch the under bucket shim if it tries to fall out

Great suggestions! I'll try both tonight, as I have small suction cups and magnets. (Never throw ANYTHING away, eh?) :P

(15 minutes later.....)

The magnets worked like a charm! Now it's on to constructing that valve spring compression tool made from the cut piece of pipe and a C clamp posted recently.

you can take the springs off by using a deep socket and a hammer, you can block up the head keeping the valves away from the bench, put the socket on the spring and a couple of whacks with the hammer, the keepers will be out, make sure the head is high enough that the valve cannot hit the bench or anything, they bend way easy

By yourself a valve lapping stick at the auto parts store.

IMO, try to avoid magnets if you can.
