Engine Oil Light
10 Feb 2007 08:43
Ok guys, thanks again to those who helped me with info on the valve clearances and how to check, fix, change shims. Since I've got into the block, I remembered something,
When I rode the bike and it truely heated up like about 1 hour of ridin, I would come to a stop and the oil light would come on. There was the proper amount of oil in the block. Do I have an oil pump problem? Has anyone experienced this with theirs?
Thanks,
Joe

did you use silcone seal on anything when you put it back together? if so your filter mesh on the pump is probably clogged with a healthy amount of crap from that. Happened on my 900...never make the same mistake.

Um oil was changed early august and happened when I rode hard about 1 month after. I didn't change the oil, a local bike mechanic did. I'll check that silicone on the mesh of the oil pump filter and see. is that a tear down into the engine?

Start at the sensor itself, and see if you have a bad connection, or the possibility of a bad oil pressure switch. You might need to remove it from the oil pan, clean it out, then reinstall it back in.
KZ550 '81-'84 Oil Pan
ZX550 '84-'86 Oil Pan
My '85 only has an oil level sensor, not an oil pressure switch. You might have junk in your screen, like stated above, or something covering the oil pressure switch in the pan.
