I am trying to get rid of the gauges and relocate my ignition, but as far as removing the tach, can I just unscrew the cable from the engine easy as that and leave it? I know it's a newb question. sue me. :)

They don't work anyways and I assume it's just the tach cable broke. Either way, since it is not a state requirement in Texas and I am building a cafe racer I figured I could do without the gauges.

My attorney will be contacting your attorney about the lawsuit...;)

I think if you simply take the tach cable off, your right knee will be coated in oil in short order; you will need some kind of plug in that hole. Big gob of bubble gum or somethin'...

I ground the edges down on a dime til it fit in the knurled nut, coated the side that would be facing out with gasket sealer and stuck it in the nut and tightened it down.

Cool, I'll try that with the dime. Thanks! Good thing I asked before spraying oil all over the garage.

I believe that is against the law. A Federal attorney will be contacting your attorney...

I'm not sure how similar a Z1/Kz900/1000 is to the 650 but Schnitz racing sells a tach drive block off "kit". It comes with an aluminum plug and a little clamp to hold it in. Maybe you can get a local shop to make you one for cheap. Copy and paste the link. (I was going to post a picture but they disabled the "save picture" ability.)
