ZX550 CYLINDER HEAD
22 Dec 2006 18:10
Will this one fit my ´84 GPz550 (ZX550A1)? Judging from the pic, I think so, but I need an experienced opinion.

If so, can anyone up there bid for me? I can send a check over a NY Citibank account, after knowing final bid and shipping charges to Argentina, of course.
Just thinking that having a replacement head for a relatively low price will be nice, those things are impossible to find down there.
Cheers.

I think you probably want an 83-84 GPz550 head, but I don't know for sure. Loudhvx knows a lot about the GPz550's so maybe he will post here.
In my humble opinion, that head looks to be trash anyway, I'd wait till a better one cones along, and it will.

Wait for an '84-'86 ZX550 head to appear on ebay, and then bid on it. That one rusty head, might be an indication of how it's been stored. Pass on it, and wait for something better.
Looking at www.buykawasaki.com the A1, A2, and A3 cylinder head has a different part number (11002-1165) than that of the H1, and H2 Models(11002-1115). I believe "H" heads also have lower compression than the "A" heads too. Same valves in those years, looked the part numbers up as well.
Just wait for the right one to show up.
What's wrong with yours? Rebuild it.

Hey guys, thanks for your advice. I´ll cool off and wait for the right one to come along.
BTW, nothing´s wrong with the present cylinder head, I was just browsing Ebay and found that complete head (OK, a little rusty indeed) for 25 bucks, and no bids on it...
Like I said that kind of stuff is almost impossible to find down here, and if you do, it´ll cost a lot more than that.
Since I plan to keep my GPz for a long time, I thought that having a replacement head around won´t hurt, that´s all.
Thanks again!

Thats where it all started out for me too. I bought a complete head with cams for about $40.00. Hold out, they're out there, and will eventually show up.
Where's the head and cams now? In Canada, as I traded them for some head work.

Yeah, you don't really want that head for a gpz. You'd be buying extra parts or doing a lot of work to make it compatible and it will end up much slower to boot. Looks like that one has water damage anyway.

Loudhvx, thanks for your advice too! Coming from an expert in this bike, it sure is a piece of advice to be taken.
I´ll wait till a better catch shows up, as a matter of fact I´m chasing a few parts fro my bike, so I browse eBay on a regular basis. It´s a matter of patience indeed...
