May '26 High Desert Ride
15 May 2026 10:03 - 15 May 2026 10:07
I'm always looking for ways to explore Central Oregon away from the main highways. There are plenty of what are referred to as ‘Market’ roads which generally run with the compass. That is except for the canyons which ruled the high desert landscape until the early 1900’s.
We started in Bend, skirted Redmond on the west, crossed the Deschutes river, the second time, at Tetherow, accessed the bridges across the Crooked river from Wimp Way . We used Hwy 97 only to cross the Crooked river. Went west of Juniper Butte, through Culver and onto the rim above Cove Palisades Park and Lake Billy Chinook.

Hi Bill,
great pictures, thank you! Totally my taste of areas, very nice country trip!
Nice to see a riding report from you guys for once! (This is the "KZ-RIDER forum," but hardly anyone writes about their tours or experiences on the road...probably because they're all "secret operations"...or like here: Most people just tinker with their bikes... Riding, moving bikes on the roads, life is short

I need to pay more attention to the forum index. I just realized that there is a Ride Reports section available. Thanks for sharing your picture video.

Hi Folks,
During the last trip that we made following the Deschutes River we made it as far as Round Butte dam. This time, with a little help from Google Earth, we made it past Pelton dam and turned around when we hit Hwy26, the main highway to Portland.
The road down to Lake Simtustus is steep, perhaps 10%, and the curves are just grins.
We rode 130 miles with my Spectre getting 52 MPG.
