Texas to California Marathon Trip A Big Success

Whew ! 4,367 miles in 9 days on a KZ650. A crazy thing to do, but we really had a good time. Houston Texas to Malibu, California - Up the Pacific Coast Highway 1 & 101 to San Francisco then to Napa Valley. Back through Oatman Arizona, Route 66, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, etc.

There were 7 motorcycles in our group and 8 riders.

You guys in California really have a beautiful state, wonderful weather and riding choices. I will need to get photos and videos from some of the other riders in a few days. For some reason we are a little tired. Can't figure out why.

Here is a list of problems that I had with the 1982 KZ650 CSR:
1. The horn button quit working.
2. A small rock hit the headlight and cracked it. (No fault of the bike).
3. In the 4,367 miles the 650 needed 5 quarts of oil to be added to maintain level. This is a quart every 875 miles. Normally I use half this much, but we were running 75 to 85 MPH, and the poor little 650 would run at 5,000 to 6,000 RPM ALL DAY LONG FOR 9 DAYS !!!

Thanks Craig. I almost called you as we went near Monterrey. One of the group needed a rear tire, but we got one in South San Fran. Grantl told me about you. I really appreciate everyone's help. You guys are the best !

Looking forward to seeing the pictures, and glad you made the trip, just needing oil. Horn? No one hears of sees you anyhow.

Views like this, were the motivation for riding such a great distance from Texas.
