Comments SALINAS, Calif. -- One person died after three motorcycles crashed while leaving the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix MotoGP at Laguna Seca on Sunday.
The California Highway Patrol said that at 4:29 p.m. as spectators of the event were exiting on Reservation Road when a 46-year-old man driving a 2007 Yamaha R6 made a u-turn on Reservation Road and collided with the driver of a 2008 Ducati Monster.
The Ducati slid across the westbound lane and ejected the 26-year-old male driver and 37-year-old female passenger.
CHP said a 2004 BMW R-1150 that was traveling westbound on Reservation Road and being driven by a 54-year-old man then crashed with the Ducati, causing the driver of the BMW motorcycle to go airborne.
The driver of the BMW motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said.
The 37-year-old female passenger of the 2009 Ducati was taken by helicopter to a hospital in San Jose with major injuries to her lower extremities, and the 26-year-old driver of the Ducati was taken to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Reservation Road was closed to traffic between Blanco and Davis roads for about two hours after the crash.
CHP said alcohol does not appear to be a cause in the crash, but the wreck is under investigation.

we snapped a few pics while waiting in line for them to re-route the traffic....we were like 20-30 bikes back when the road was closed ..so we must have just missed what happened...even during the wreck clean up there were idiots like dirt bike boy on his orange ktm in the pic cutting in between normal couples who rode safe to and fro and just want to make it home alive...total squids.....pulling right between us almost ran my leg over to cut in line...tons of folks drinking all day then driving like total assholes on their bikes...plus tons of low skill level riders and jerks on cruisers.....total bummer scene on the last day riding home every yr...almost better to leave the kz in the garage and take the civic...then you just gotta watch for biker boyzzzz slamming into the car and killing you...
kind of a downer and i only posted this casue we were "right there"....click on the pics and you can see bikes down in the strawberry fields..only three hit each other but i bet a lot went down or off road cause there were bikes in the bushes too....

most folks were patient ,we chatted with a guy on a yellow 748 duck who was gonna ride part way home to bend Oregon..he was like"wow best weekend ever and you get killed when it's over"...riding home we got tail gaiting by a honda cb929 naked,no gloves...girl on back scarred, then he starts passing cars on the right in a agricultural area with dirt clods like baseballs in the bike lane...another group of squids were sticking out there legs to knock cones over as the left and one flipped 20 ft in air and landed in the oncoming traffic.....
these are the people that buy bikes...it makes em tough and cool...and dead...

Yikes
You would think that this might be a wake-up call for some of those squids to start thinking if not about their own safety then at least about that of those around them. My dad is in his late fifties and rides a BMW R-1150RT, couldn't imagine if something like this happened. I feel for the guy's family and all those involved!

Reminds me of the downer watching Bubba's crash on the cool down lap in '89. I was standing right there... Eddie did just miss this carnage. It was horrific.

My friend would say: I'm afraid of Stupid People., you know why? Cause they are everywhere. Some people just do not belong on bikes period. You gotta drive like everyone is trying to kill you, this imaginary space you think you have on your bike is non-existant. Wear your helmet my brothers.
