John Brooke's new edition Z1 Restorer's Book now available
10 Feb 2025 07:14 - 11 Feb 2025 06:17
Title is "A to Z1". He's been working on this for many years. It will be a touchstone of Z1 and Z2 data and history for many years to come.
Hardback, 470 pages on mid-weight, gloss stock. Many color pictures of bikes, components, advertisements from various domestic & foreign markets. A pic of the table of contents is below.
It's being sold in the U.S. by:
Celina Motorcycles in Celina, Ohio. Currently awaiting their initial order of 20. Speak to Erin. We've reserved one copy. (Some were reserved already.)
Z-Power in UK. Now in stock.
Z-Spares in Australia. Awaiting stock.
We can reveal now that for the past year or so, we (among a few others) have assisted John by perusing a soft cover proof edition, making corrections & suggestions. We were blown away by what we saw. The new hardback edition is the culmination of these efforts. There's no other single-source resource that comes anywhere close to John's book. Full documentation of most all printed technical publications (excluding the White Manuals) from Mama Kaw that include:
Early Days - Project N600 > Project T103 > V1 Test Bikes > 900xx Press Bikes > Pre-Production V-Production Bikes > Early production Z1's through Z1-B's.
A separate section devoted exclusively to the 750RS (Z2).
All known Service Bulletins.
Full parts lists with color images for comparison of the various iterations & incremental part #'s of components installed during the three year production run of Z1's and Z2's.
Color ads for reference.
Date codes.
If one is seriously interested in Z1's and Z2's, this book would be an invaluable addition to one's library. It's a Z1 / Z2 encyclopedia in one book.
EDIT: This is slmjim. I must acknowledge the patience, advice & assistance of The Lovely Z1BEBE in perusing the proof copy. She spent many an afternoon& evening, sometimes late into the night, as I did, reading every word, every digit, checking grammar, punctuation & spelling (the Queen's English is sometimes confusing), fact checking & all the other mind-numbing stuff that peels one's eyelids back.
Thank You, My Love.

Thanks Jim. I ordered a copy from Z Power. It will cost me $350 CAD, but well worth every penny.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

I was aware of this new book some time ago, after one of my emails with John Brookes. I'm glad it is finally out! I also ordered a copy from Z Power.

My copy is on its way. ZPower shipped it the same day. They shipped UPS because they say it's too heavy for the Royal Mail. UPS tracking shows that it arrived in the US and is currently on its way to my home, scheduled for Friday.

14 Feb 2025 02:32Scirocco, you are correct...this is a pricey book. If you have any of his other books, there is some repetition. BUT, the level of detail is legendary and if you are interested in quality restorations and history of the Z1/Z2 family, then this should be on your bookshelf.I´m struggeling about the prize but i can´t resised!

It arrived today. John has done a masterful job!
Very well wrapped...kudos to Z-Power. The book is wrapped in plastic. They put it in a cardboard box, then wrapped it with bubble wrap, then put it in another cardboard box that was completely covered with packing tape. I've just quickly gone through it and my impression is that it contains just about everything you could ever want to know about the Z1 series. I can understand why some people might hesitate at the price, as it cost me almost $400 CAD. I've rebuilt two Z1B's and will likely do a couple more before I'm done, so for me it was worth it.
