A neighbor of mine called me and said a friend of his has a 1969 W2 650 that has been parked in his backyard for 15 to 20 years and he says I can have it if I get it out of there. Here is a picture of the spot I extracted it from! (should have got a pic of bike there, I know)

The brakes were completely frozen so I made this giant "skateboard" to be able to roll it out of the back yard.

The "skateboard" worked better than expected and we were able to get bike out of back yard and onto trailer.

Bob the previous owner is an interesting guy and is a "licensed" Ural mechanic and is now looking for the title and a W2 650 repair manual which he will also give to me when found.

Hi WheelHop,
In 2002 I had business in Baton Rouge, LA. I made a side trip into New Orleans to look at a W3. I knew a little about these copies of a BSA A7 but nothing  about this bike. This W3 was a Japan only model and was as large as the public was allowed to ride. The Japanese police were riding Honda 750 fours.
In 1974 the seller, John was working in Japan and wanted a bike even though he'd be returning stateside in a couple of years. After his assignment he shipped the bike home.
Which of the next few facts came in which order I'm not sure:
A Japanese company named Megaru (SP???) purchased a license from Birmingham Small Arms Co. (BSA) to produce copies of BSA's A-7, which was a 500 CC vertical, transverse twin.
           Kawasaki Purchased Megaru
I don't know where else in the world Kawasaki marketed the W series but they were imported in the USA in 1967, '68 and '69.
I'm not sure what set the W2 apart from the W1, each had a single carb. The W3s were fitted with dual carburetors.
Back to riding on Japanese public roads in 1975. The cops had the 750 fours, the public was limited to 650 CCs. In order to borrow a little bit of the Z1's energy Kawasaki equipped the 1974 W3 with a headlight and gauges from a Z1, the fork boots and dual disks helped distinguish the bike as well. I’ve never seen a W3 that was officially marketed in the USA so I don’t know if they came with the extra disk and Z1 headlight and gauges, but I doubt it.
My W3 is 100 % stock.
You probably noticed that the gas tank is center mounted. Even when these bikes are running well they’re shakers!
Good Luck.
I do believe I have a service manual.
